His Most Eminence, Prophet (Dr.) Emmanuel Abiodun Adewale Alogbo (JP, FNACM, D.D.M.), the Spiritual Father and Chairman of CSMC Worldwide (Àyò Ni O) and the 5th Supreme Head (Olórì) of the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, was called to glory peacefully in the early hours of July 30, 2026, at his residence in Lagos at the age of 93.
Throughout his over six decades of dedicated service, Baba Aladura Alogbo stood as a beacon of holiness, musical excellence, structural reform, and ecumenical unity across indigenous African Christianity.
A Destiny Molded in Worship and Service
Born on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1933, at No. 16 Inabiri Street, Lagos, to the family of Late Dickson Adeleye Alogbo and Late Maria Ojubomo Alogbo, his life was intertwined with faith and music from his earliest days. His father, the Choirmaster at Hoare Methodist Church, Yaba, passed away when Emmanuel was just 12 years old. Following this loss, he moved to Ile-Ife to live with his mother, completing his secondary education at the historic Oduduwa College.
In 1950, he joined the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) in the Electrical/Refrigeration section of the Engineering Department. His employment with the NRC led to a transfer to Zaria in 1955—a move that would prove providential in shaping the future of the Cherubim & Seraphim fold.
The Encounter in Zaria (1959)
In 1959, while walking past a Cherubim and Seraphim church in Zaria, the young railway engineer overheard the choir struggling to render a hymn he had composed years earlier as a chorister in Lagos. Stepping inside to assist and guide the choir in proper arrangement, Emmanuel Alogbo officially joined the C&S Movement Church. His musical prowess transformed the congregation’s music ministry, embellishing liturgical worship and laying the foundation for a lifelong spiritual journey.
Architectural Pioneer of C&S in Southern Nigeria and the Diaspora
Upon returning to Lagos in 1960, Prophet Alogbo was inspired by God to establish the first branch of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church south of the River Niger:
- The Southern Cradle: On September 29, 1960 (Holy Michael’s Day), he hosted the initial service at his personal residence on Cregg Street, Surulere, with roughly ten worshippers. This fellowship grew into the Sabo-Yaba Church—the cradle of the Lagos District—which birthed scores of districts across Southern Nigeria.
- Revolutionizing Sacred Music: Under his leadership as Choirmaster and Music Director, church worship underwent a profound transformation. He pioneered the integration of brass trumpets, organs, guitars, and traditional instruments like the gangan (Yoruba talking drum) into sacred liturgy, establishing a vibrant pattern of worship that inspired congregations worldwide.
- Global Expansion: Driven by missionary zeal, Baba Alogbo was instrumental in planting C&S Movement congregations across the globe, establishing strong footholds in the United Kingdom and the United States (including Los Angeles, New York, and Houston).
Apex Leadership: A Transformative Reign
Following the transition of Baba Aladura Samuel Adefila Abidoye, Prophet Alogbo was appointed Acting Spiritual Head in November 2023 and formally installed as the 6th Baba Aladura and Spiritual Father of CSMC Worldwide (Àyò Ni O). He was subsequently enthroned as the 5th Supreme Head (Olórì) of the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria.
