The Plateau State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged illegal possession and trafficking of firearms, recovering two rifles, two magazines and 29 rounds of live ammunition in a major breakthrough against the proliferation of illegal weapons in the state.
The arrests were made by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in collaboration with officers of the Bukuru Police Division following credible intelligence that linked one of the suspects to the unlawful possession of firearms.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Alfred Alabo, the first suspect from Barkin Ladi Local Government Area was arrested on June 22, 2026, at Miyango-Gyel, behind Building Materials in Jos.
The statement said operatives recovered a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle from the suspect.

He further disclosed that the firearm was purchased from one Abdulsalam Mohammed Hassan, a 19-year-old male from Kadunu, Mangu Local Government Area,” the statement revealed.
