Former Nigeria Striker Michael Eneramo Dies From Cardiac Arrest During Friendly Match In Kaduna

Former Nigeria striker Michael Eneramo has died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest during a friendly match in Kaduna, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced on Friday. He was 40.

Eneramo reportedly collapsed on the pitch five minutes into the second half before receiving medical attention.

NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi described the death as “devastating,” offering condolences to the former player’s family and the wider football community.

Eneramo earned 10 caps for Nigeria and played a key role during the country’s qualification campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, notably scoring in a crucial 2-2 draw against Tunisia.

At club level, he was widely admired for his strength, determination and goalscoring record, particularly during a successful spell with Tunisian side Esperance, where fans nicknamed him “The Tank.”

He also played professionally in Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Turkey during a career that spanned multiple leagues.
