

The police authorities in Niger State have arrested a suspected vehicle thief and 23 other suspects in their efforts to tackle criminal activities in the state.
According to the spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, the suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in vehicle theft, motorcycle snatching, vandalism, and thuggery.
He said the mechanic, Suleiman Anaba, 32, of Sahonrami in Mashegu Local Government Area, was nabbed for allegedly stealing a customer’s vehicle entrusted to him for repairs.
The suspect, the Command’s spokesman said, was given a Toyota Corolla with registration number AG 281 BNK but allegedly went into hiding with the vehicle for over a week.
He was, however, apprehended by police operatives attached to the Mashegu Division, following a complaint.
During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and led officers to Kontagora, where the vehicle was recovered. He has since been charged in court for prosecution.
In a separate operation on March 26, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., police in Mokwa arrested a suspected motorcycle thief, Buhari Usman, 25, of Jebba, along Raba Road.
He confessed to stealing a motorcycle in Moyo and planned to sell it through an accomplice, Abdullahi Suleiman.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Suleiman and another gang member, Aliyu Ibrahim, 26.
Two Bajaj motorcycles were recovered from the suspects, including one reportedly stolen from Sunti Sugar Company.
All suspects have been charged in court, while efforts are ongoing to identify the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles.
Similarly, on March 30, 2026, police operatives attached to Maje Division said they arrested four suspects in connection with receiving a stolen vehicle.
The Toyota Carina-E, with registration number CQ 302 GGE, was reportedly stolen on March 27 in the Durumi area of Garki, Abuja.
The vehicle was later found parked and offered for sale along Kaduna Road, where it was recovered by the police.
The suspects — Gambo Ibrahim, 23; Sani Kabir, 25; Shuaibu Danjuma, 29; and Abdulrahman Abubakar, 21 — claimed they purchased the vehicle for ₦850,000 from an unidentified individual who promised to provide the original documents. The case remains under investigation.
The Command also recorded progress in combating vandalism.
On March 31, 2026, suspected vandals fled upon sighting police and vigilante operatives on patrol in Kabo community, abandoning a Honda vehicle (Reg. No. KEF 403 SA), vandalised electric cables, and other exhibits, including mobile phones and identification cards.
A 20-year-old vigilante member, Abubakar Abdullahi of Tungan-Maje, Minna, was arrested for vandalising electric cables from CNG buses parked at the Trade Fair Complex in Shango, in another incident on April 3, 2026. He was apprehended with tools including a knife, scissors, a torchlight, and the stolen cables. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Furthermore, on April 2, 2026, police arrested a suspected motorcycle snatcher, Babangida Ali, 31, of Kagarko, following a distress call from the Bakin-Iku area along Kaduna Road. The suspect allegedly robbed a motorcyclist of his Bajaj motorcycle and attempted to flee, but was promptly chased and apprehended by patrol officers. He has provided information on other members of his syndicate, who are currently at large.
In a related development, police operatives from the Central Division in Minna arrested 16 suspected miscreants between March 31 and April 2, 2026, during a house-to-house operation targeting criminal elements in Angwan-Sarki and Ogbomosho areas.
Items recovered from the suspects include cutlasses, a sickle, a saw, and sticks. The suspects are currently under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
