

Nasarawa State University, Keffi has produced 82 first-class graduates ahead of its 8th combined convocation ceremony and 25th anniversary celebration scheduled for April 11.
Speaking at a press briefing in Keffi, the Vice-Chancellor, Sa’adatu Hassan-Liman, disclosed that the institution would graduate over 25,000 students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
She explained that the convocation would cover three academic sessions—2022/2023, 2023/2024, and 2024/2025—highlighting the university’s growing academic output.
The Vice-Chancellor also revealed that the institution would confer honorary doctorate degrees on prominent personalities, including Abdul Samad Rabiu, founder and chairman of BUA Group, and Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania, in recognition of their contributions to humanity.
She added that a third awardee, Dr. Mahmood Ahmad, would also be honoured, in line with regulations of the National Universities Commission limiting honorary doctorate recipients to three.
According to Hassan-Liman, the convocation and silver jubilee celebrations will feature a range of activities, including an interdenominational church service, special Juma’at prayers, sanitation exercise, and medical outreach in the host community.
Other highlights include a novelty football match between the university’s Vice-Chancellor team and that of Bingham University, as well as a silver jubilee lecture and traditional convocation lecture.
The ceremony will conclude with the commissioning of projects and the formal award of degrees to graduating students.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their contributions to the growth and development of the institution since its establishment.

The Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has produced 82 first class graduates as it is set to award degrees to thousands of students in its forthcoming 8th combined convocation and the 25th anniversary of the institution on April 11.
At a press briefing in Keffi, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan-Liman disclosee that the institution which has about 11 faculties, is graduating over 25,000 students, stating that the convocation would cover both undergraduates and postgraduate students of three sets.
She added that the institution has also conferred honorary doctorate degrees on the founder and chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, and the President of Tanzania, Samia Hassan, for their outstanding contributions to humanity and society as a whole.
She, however, disclosed that honorary doctorate degrees will be conferred on the BUA Group chairman and the Tanzanian President, alongside one other awardee, in line with the rules of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Her words, “For the honorary degrees award, we have earmarked to honour three personalities, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the NUC and also in accordance with the Keffi declaration, which has pegged the number of honorary doctorate degree awardees at not more than three.
“The three awardees include the President of Tanzania, Her Excellency, Madam Samia Suluhu Hassan, who will be given an honorary degree on that day. We also have Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu of BUA Industries; he will also be awarded. And lastly, we have Dr Mahmood Ahmad, who will also receive an honorary degree.
“These three people are going to be awarded on that day, in addition to the bachelor’s and postgraduate degree awardees.”
The Vice-Chancellor, while revealing that over 25,000 graduates of the university from the 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions will attend the convocation ceremony, explained that a total of 82 students bagged first-class degrees.
The vice chancellor, therefore, noted that several other activities have been earmarked for the 8th combined convocation ceremony, which also marks the university’s 25th anniversary.
“Some of the events include an interdenominational church service, special Juma’at prayers, sanitation exercise, medical outreach in the university’s host community, among others.
“We will also have a novelty football match on Thursday between the VC of NSUK team and the VC of Bingham University team.
“On Friday, we will have some of our major events, which include a Silver Jubilee lecture and later our traditional convocation lecture.
“On Saturday, we will start with the commissioning of projects at 9 a.m. before proceeding to the convocation ground for the ceremony,” the vice concluded.
She appreciated everyone who contributed, in one way or another, to the growth and development of the institution since its establishment.
