Nigerian Military Ramps Up North-West Operations As CDS Oluyede Issues New Directive

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered troops under Operation Fansan Yamma to intensify efforts to eliminate terrorists and restore lasting peace across the North-West region.

During an operational visit to the Joint Task Force headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, the CDS stressed that national security must remain a top priority, declaring that Nigeria must be made safe “at all costs.”

The directive, according to a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, followed an assessment of troop readiness and ongoing military operations in the region.

Addressing soldiers, Oluyede commended their resilience and sacrifices, urging them to remain disciplined, professional, and relentless in tackling banditry and terrorism.
“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders… We must make Nigeria safe at all costs,” he said.

He assured troops of continued support in welfare, training, and provision of operational equipment, while also highlighting plans to strengthen air support and improve coordination across military theatres.

As part of the visit, the CDS paid a courtesy call on the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, appreciating the state government’s support for military operations and calling for sustained intelligence sharing from residents.

Governor Lawal, in response, commended the Armed Forces for their ongoing efforts and sacrifices in restoring peace to the state and the wider North-West region.

The visit featured operational briefings, troop engagements, and an assessment of deployments, as the military continues its campaign to stabilise the region.
