

An agribusiness firm, Johnvents Group, has launched a comprehensive Environmental Charter aimed at embedding sustainability practices across its operations.
The Charter, described as a structured framework for environmental performance, outlines priorities such as resource efficiency, waste management, pollution prevention, and climate action, all supported by measurable targets and timelines.
Group Managing Director, John Alamu, said the initiative marks a shift from policy formulation to full implementation, integrating sustainability into everyday business operations.
He explained that the approach places responsibility for execution on teams across production, procurement, and logistics, strengthening accountability and aligning the company with global Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.
Alamu noted that the move is particularly important as international buyers tighten due diligence requirements in the cocoa export market.
As part of its operational improvements, the company’s FMCG arm, Johnvents Foods, recently completed the FSSC 22000 Stage 2 audit conducted by Bureau Veritas, confirming compliance with international food safety standards.
The audit assessed critical systems including hazard analysis, operational controls, and regulatory compliance, placing the firm on track for full certification and access to global supply chains.
Beyond processing, the company has strengthened its cocoa sourcing network by training 28 Licensed Buying Agents on traceability protocols and compliance requirements, ensuring adherence to evolving global regulations.
It also expanded social compliance initiatives, including training field officers under its Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) and equipping cooperative leaders with skills to improve governance and community engagement.
These efforts, Alamu said, reflect a broader strategy to bridge the gap between corporate sustainability goals and operational execution across the value chain.
